Excise Report

Excise Tax Size settings allow you to convert quantities sold into liters, case equivalents, or another consistent unit for volume reporting.

For example, when reporting in 9-liter cases, enter 0.0833 for a 750 mL bottle. Each bottle will represent one-twelfth of a case, so 12 bottles will total approximately one 9-liter case.

Once configured, calculated volume appears in the Volume column of the online Excise Report and supported Closing Report exports.

​Example Setup: If everything is measured in cases that are 9L total, this means our 750mL bottles would be 0.0833 to total 1 case. So this is what we will establish in our Wine settings page (Product Settings > Wine).

To establish a default conversion value for a product type, navigate to Settings > Product Settings and select the applicable product type, such as Wine.

Under Quantity, enter the conversion value in the Unit Size field and select the applicable reporting unit, such as cases.
​

For example, when reporting wine in 9-liter cases, enter 0.0833 cs for a standard 750 mL bottle. Each bottle will represent approximately one-twelfth of a case.

Save your changes.

If an individual product requires a different conversion value, navigate to Products and open that product.
​

Under Quantity, update the Unit Size value and reporting unit. This product-level value overrides the default configured for its product type.

Use this option for products such as half bottles, magnums, cans, boxes, or other formats that should report a different volume.

Excise volume can also be configured for product variants.
​

Navigate to Products > Categories > Variants and edit the applicable variant category. Enter the appropriate value in the Excise Tax Size field.

This allows formats such as glasses, cans, boxes, growlers, and magnums to use a volume value appropriate to that variant.

Confirm the configured value by running the Excise Report after the variant is sold.

Navigate to Reports > Sales > Excise Report.

The selected date range appears on the left side of the report filters. The report defaults to Date processed where the Date Filter Type option is available.

To include orders based on the date they were originally created, change Date Filter Type to Date created.
​

Select any additional filters and click Submit to generate the report.
​

The Excise Report displays the calculated volume for each applicable product or variant under the Volume column.
​

Volume is calculated using the quantity sold and the configured Excise Tax Size. Products or variants without an applicable value will not contribute converted volume to the report.
​

Supported Closing Report exports also include individual and total volume under the Volume column.
​

The online report through the Dashboard reports the volumes under the Volume column.
