How to fix common issues for receipt or kitchen printers

Updated over a week ago

This article lists some of the more common errors encountered with Epson printers and how to resolve those errors.

Step 1: Check the actual network cable

(Believe it or not, this is often the culprit!)

Check your cables. Confirm the printer cable is connected to the network. Often, the cable can slip out without anyone noticing it came out of the slot at the back or bottom.

Step 2: If You see the Printer but can not print to it

Open to the POS Order screen, and from the bottom menu, choose the printer from the Set Printer dropdown. This activates the printer.

You should only need to do this the first time you print or if your session has ended and the printer needs to be reconnected.

You will need to set each printer you want to be able to use.

Even though you activate the printer here, you can still choose from the order print button which printer to print from, as long as they have been activated here.

Step 3: Check Printer is on the same wifi network as iPad or device

Print the printer IP address by turning off the printer, then hold down the FEED button, keep pressing it, and turn the printer back on.

Look for the IP address.

If it says NONE, check Step 1 above.

If it gives you an IP address, type that IP address into the browser window URL field ie, Chrome, Safari, Firefox and see if you get to the Epson Config login page. You don't need to login, but if the page loads, it is good, it means the printer is on the same wifi network.

If the printed receipt has no IP address, or if the IP address is 192.168.192.168 - then please go back to check Step 1.

If this happens and you still can't print, in your ticket to us, mention that you did Step 1, 2 and 3 and CAN or CANNOT get to the IP address page on Epson Config Site. If you can get to that page, you should be able to print.

Epson TM-U220B - Kitchen Receipt Printer Error

If your Epson TM-U220B kitchen printer fails to print with the following message displayed:
โ€‹Status of the drawer kick number 3 connector pin = "H"
Offline status
Auto cutter error generated
Sounding the buzzer (limited model)

This error means that the printer is reporting an auto-cutter error.
To clear the error, try blasting the auto cutter with compressed air.
If that doesn't work, you may need to have the printer serviced or replaced. If the printer is still under warranty, it should be covered. In this case, contact the company you purchased it from. Otherwise, look for a local service center.

If out of warranty and the printer is old, you may want to buy a new one.

Also, please ensure that you use only approved media/paper in order to increase the lifespan of your printer.
